The word ‘leader’ is a very emotive one which raises all kinds of images for people. Heroes and villains from history, sport, business and fiction come to mind. When people who think of themselves as ‘just ordinary’ are told that they have to take on a leadership role, these images can sometimes get in the way and undermine their confidence.
You start by asking the participants to introduce themselves and name someone whom they consider a successful leader. After the introductions you divide the group into small teams where they discuss their examples and try to decide what qualities they have in common and what are their main differences. Finally, you sum up and lead a brief discussion of the original question, ‘What is leader like?’
